Documentary filmmaker says Trump had a secret call with Vladimir Putin days before the election.

Russia denies Trump's claim that Putin will release jailed WSJ reporter if he wins.

The filmmaker who was given extensive access to Donald Trump and his close associates during the final months of the 2020 presidential election told Politico that Trump had a secret phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin days before the November 2020 presidential election.

Alex Holder told Politico Playbook Deep Dive podcast that he was traveling with Trump aboard Air Force One on October 25, 2020 when he was informed by then-chief of staff Mark Meadows that his scheduled interview with Trump was canceled because he was on a call with Putin.

My memory is that the chief of staff sort of came over and said that the interview couldn’t happen today because the president was on the phone. And I believe, if I remember correctly, that he said that he was on the phone to the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, which is why the interview had to be postponed,” Holder said.

It was never disclosed publicly what the two leaders discussed on that call nine days before the election. But, Politico noted that earlier that Sunday Putin had denounced Trump’s allegations that Biden was receiving millions of dollars through Hunter Biden’s alleged business dealings in Ukraine and Moscow.

One former Trump official told Politico “he had no recollection of a Trump-Putin call during that period.”

Holder was recently subpoenaed by the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot for raw footage from that day as well as interviews from September 2020 to present with Trump, then-Vice-President Mike Pence, Trump’s children, and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

Holder spoke with Politico on Thursday after his interview with Jan. 6 investigators.
