Justice Department Special counsel Jack Smith is seeking a protective order citing social media threats from Donald Trump.
Earlier on Friday, Trump posted an all caps threat on Truth Social, writing “IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I’M COMING AFTER YOU!”.
Prosecutors say Trump’s social media posts could have a “harmful chilling effect” on witnesses in the case against him if he started posting details from discovery documents and evidence in public.
They also said a protective order is important in the case because “the defendant has previously issued public statements on social media regarding witnesses, judges, attorneys, and others associated with legal matters pending against him.”
