Donald Trump defends supporters who wanted to hang Mike Pence: 'People were very angry'

Donald Trump is defending angry chants from his supporters during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot including calls to hang former Vice-President Mike Pence.

In an interview with ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent Jonathan Karl Trump said Pence was “well protected” and people were angry.

Asked if he was ever concerned for Pence’s safety during the riot, Trump said, “No, I thought he was well-protected, and I had heard that he was in good shape.”

Karl went on to ask about “those chants” and Trump responded: “Well, the people were very angry.”

“They were saying ‘hang Mike Pence,’ ” Karl said.

“Because it’s common sense, Jon,” Trump interjected. “It’s common sense that you’re supposed to protect. How can you — if you know a vote is fraudulent, right? — how can you pass on a fraudulent vote to Congress?”
