Donald Trump rescinds his endorsement of 'woke' Mo Brooks.

Donald Trump has withdrawn his endorsement of Rep. Mo Brooks in the Alabama senate race because he “went woke” on the 2020 presidential election.

“Mo Brooks of Alabama made a horrible mistake recently when he went ‘woke’ and stated, referring to the 2020 Presidential Election Scam, ‘Put that behind you, put that behind you,'” Trump said in a statement on Wednesday. “I am hereby withdrawing my Endorsement of Mo Brooks for the Senate.”

Brooks was booed by the crowd at a rally in Cullman, Alabama last August when he told attendees to move past the 2020 election.

“There are some people who are despondent about the voter fraud and election theft of 2020,” Brooks said. “Folks, put that behind you. Put that behind you. Yes, look forward! Look forward! Look forward! Beat them in 2022! Beat them in 2024!”

Last week, Trump called his comments “disappointing” and floated the idea of endorsing someone else.

Retiring Sen. Richard Shelby’s former chief of staff Katie Britt and local businessman Mike Durant is also running for the seat. Even with Trump’s endorsement Brooks was still struggling in the polls and falling behind in the money race.

Among the three candidates Britt is leading the money race. She ended the year with just over $4 million, while Brooks had just under $2 million. Independent polling of the race has been scant. But a recent poll commissioned by ForestPAC, the political arm of the Alabama Forestry Association, which has endorsed Britt shows Brooks a distant third at 17.6%, behind Durant (33.8%) and Britt (32%).

The Alabama primary elections are scheduled for May 24, 2022.
