Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania, Dr. Mehmet Oz is challenging the country’s top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci to a debate on COVID-19 and called him a “petty tyrant.”
“Dr. Fauci, instead of letting the sycophantic media fawn all over you, let’s talk facts: You got COVID wrong,” Oz says in a campaign ad. “Let’s get the facts straight here. You and me. Let’s have a debate–doctor to doctor—and give the American people the truth about COVID-19. I’m game. Anytime. Anywhere. Dr. Fauci, are you in?”
The attack came days after Dr. Fauci clashed with Republican Sen. Rand Paul (Ky) at a Senate hearing in which Fauci accused the senator of putting his life in danger with personal attacks for political gain.
Oz told Newsmax host Eric Bolling that he wants to debate Fauci about vaccine mandates, naturally acquired immunity and “inexcusable delays with therapeutics.”
“He is a petty tyrant. He got COVID wrong. He continues to get it wrong,” Oz said, adding that doctors like him think Fauci mismanaged the pandemic.
But, Oz’s own medical advice has come under attack throughout the pandemic. He has promoted questionable treatments for COVID like colloidal silver, green coffee extracts, umckaloabo root extract and raspberry ketones, according to Newsweek. Oz also appeared on right-wing outlets like Fox News to tout the benefits of using hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID. Additional research found that the drug is not an effective treatment for the virus.
