Elon Musk took to his social media platform on Thursday to call for retired air traffic controllers to return to work claiming there is a “shortage.”
“There is a shortage of top notch air traffic controllers,” he said. “If you have retired, but are open to returning to work, please consider doing so.”
The comments come as Musk, through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has fired thousands of federal workers including several hundred at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) leading to concerns about the safety of air travel.
According to the Associated Press, the workers fired include personnel hired for FAA radar, landing and navigational aid maintenance. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy claims “Zero air traffic controllers and critical safety personnel were let go.”
