Elon Musk is being accompanied by at least two bodyguards, who even follow him to the restroom, a Twitter engineer told BBC.
The engineer who spoke to BBC on condition of anonymity to protect their employment, said Musk refuses to go anywhere in the building at Twitter HQ in San Francisco, California without his bodyguards, not even the restroom.
“Wherever he goes in the office, there are at least two bodyguards – very bulky, tall, Hollywood movie bodyguards. Even when [he goes] to the restroom,” the engineer said.
He said Musk’s use of bodyguards inside Twitter HQ suggested that he does not trust his remaining staff members in the building.
In May, Musk tweeted that owning Twitter “probably won’t increase my life expectancy.” He has also suggested that he could be assassinated. In December, Musk claimed a “crazy stalker” jumped on a car carrying his son in Los Angeles. Police later said they believed the suspect in the case “to be a member of Elon Musk’s security team,” according to Insider.
Musk laid off thousands of Twitter employees shortly after acquiring the platform in October to cut cost. But, his decision made it harder to maintain the platform reliably.
“For someone on the inside, it’s like a building where all the pieces are on fire,” the engineer told BBC. “When you look at it from the outside the façade looks fine, but I can see that nothing is working. All the plumbing is broken, all the faucets, everything.”
