Eric Trump told Fox News on Saturday that people came up to him on a flight and hugged him after news of his father’s indictment broke earlier this week.
“I was on a plane when this whole indictment broke. People were coming up to me giving me hugs,” Trump said in an interview on Fox & Friends weekend. “The support is unbelievable out there because people understand that we’ve literally become a banana republic.”
A grand jury in Manhattan voted Thursday to indict Donald Trump on criminal charges for his role in organizing a $130,000 hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.
Trump slammed the indictment during his interview on Saturday, saying it makes “a mockery of our legal system in this country” and that his family is ready to fight it.
“We go out there and we fight,” he said. “That’s what we’ve had to do since the moment he came down that escalator.”
Trump made a similar comment about receiving hugs from strangers in the past. Last year he told Fox News that strangers came up to him on the street and hug him “with tears in their eyes,” telling him how much they missed his father.
