Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich an former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan are being released from Russian prison in a multi-country prisoner swap, according to reports.
The deal also reportedly include Russian-American radio journalist Alsu Kurmasheva.
Whelan and Gershkovich were both imprisoned in Russia on accusations of espionage which the United States denied. Both men had received, 16 year sentences. Whelan has been serving that sentence since 2020. He was arrested six years ago, back in 2018. Gershkovich was arrested in March 2023 and was just convicted last month.
Kurmasheva, was detained in Russia in June last year on charges of spreading false information about the Russian army.
