Ex-boyfriend of Capitol rioter recognized her from viral tweet and tipped off the FBI.

A woman who was among the pro-Trump mob that stormed the U.S Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 was identified by an ex-boyfriend thanks to a viral tweet.

According to NBC News, the woman’s ex, a Los Angeles-based designer who asked not to be identified for fear of harassment, was in the checkout line at a Joann Fabric and Crafts store last weekend when he learned his ex-girlfriend was wanted by the FBI in connection with the riot.

The man said his friend showed him a picture of a viral tweet from the FBI with a woman wearing a pink beret and he immediately recognized her.

“I stopped dead in my tracks,” he said. “I’m like, ‘That’s Jenny.’”

He submitted a tip to the FBI that weekend. On Monday, the bureau contacted him and confirmed that the woman they were investigating is his ex-girlfriend Jennifer Vargas.

The designer told NBC News that he met Vargas online in late 2018 and they hit it off “really well.” But, their relationship ended months later when he found out about Vargas’ far-right politics and her interest in Hitler’s “Mein Kampf.”

“I was just instantly turned off, like, ‘Yo, I don’t think this is going to work out,’” he said. “You’re, like, reading ‘Mein Kampf,’ you think immigrants don’t deserve X, Y, Z.”
