Former CIA Director John Brennan said Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is not fit for office after the Republican lawmaker defended Jack Teixeira, who was arrested earlier this week for leaking Pentagon intelligence documents.
“From my perspective, I think Marjorie Taylor Greene has demonstrated time and time again that she’s not fit to hold public office with some of her commentary that she has made, even previously,” Brennan told MSNBC. “And so therefore, I believe she should not be involved in any category of sensitive, classified information. And she does have several clearances because of her role inside the Congress and position on the committee.”
Teixeira, an Air National Guardsman, was arrested last week after posting Pentagon files, including detailed intelligence assessments of the state of the war in Ukraine in an online chat room.
Greene later claimed on Twitter that Teixeira was targeted by the Biden administration because he is “white, male, christian, and antiwar.” She also implied that the Biden Administration was the “real enemy” for helping Ukraine to fight Russia.
Current and former lawmakers from both sides of the aisle criticized Greene for her remarks.
Former Rep. Liz Cheney said Greene demonstrated once again that she “cannot be trusted with America’s national security information and should not have a security clearance of any kind.”
Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) also slammed Greene for defending “one of the biggest traitors America has seen.”
“I’m sorry, Marge, being white, male, and Christian is not license to betray your country and put the lives of thousands at risk,” he added. “But this wouldn’t be the first time she sided with traitors.
Teixeira was arraigned in a federal court in Boston on Friday on charges of unlawfully possessing and removing classified records.
