Former Rep. George Santos (R) announced Thursday that he will run for Congress again.
Santos’ announcement came months after he was expelled from Congress after a damning House ethics committee report and a 23-count federal indictment charging him with crimes, including aggravated identity theft and wire fraud.
A special election to replace him in New York’s 3rd congressional district was held last month and Democrat Tom Suozzi flipped the seat.
Now, the indicted serial liar wants to return to Congress.
After crashing President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Thursday, Santos announced on X/Twitter that he will be switching district from New York’s 3rd to the 1st, which would mean he is mounting a primary challenge to Rep. Nick Lalota (R-NY).
LaLota is one of the Republican lawmakers in Congress who led the effort to expel Santos.
“New York hasn’t had a real conservative represent them since I left office arbitrarily, thanks to RINO, empty suits like [Lalota]. He is a willing to risk the future of our majority and the future of this country for his own political gain,” Santos said.
“Tonight, I want to announce that I will be returning to the arena of politics and challenging Nick for the battle over #NY1,” he added. “I look forward to debating him on the issues and on his weak record as a Republican. The fight for our majority is imperative for the survival of the country.”
The New York primary election is June 25.Â
