Father of fentanyl victim honored at SOTU calls Marjorie Taylor Greene “nasty”

Father of fentanyl victim slams Marjorie Taylor Greene for heckling his daughter's story during SOTU.

A man who lost his 20-year-old daughter to fentanyl overdose slammed Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) for heckling President Joe Biden while he was telling his daughter’s story during Tuesday’s State of the Union.

Doug Griffin told The Independent that it was “really nasty” of Greene to interrupt Biden’s address during what should have been a “moment of reverence”.

“I was startled as that was the only time during the entire speech that he was heckled in that way,” he said. “It was really nasty in what was a time of reverence. I think she crossed the line.”

Griffin lost his daughter Courtney in September 2014 to fentanyl overdose. Since then, he has been on a mission to create safe communities for those in addiction recovery. Griffin said it was a big moment for him to be invited to the State of the Union and for Biden to honor him during the section of his address focused on the fentanyl and opioid crisis.

But, Griffin told The Independent that Greene’s heckling “took me away.”

“At that moment he was trying to tell her story and get a response to the story and [Ms Greene] broke the momentum of that moment,” he said. “I traveled a long way for me and my wife to be there to hear it and she crossed the line and broke the momentum of the minute.”

On Wednesday Greene told reporters that she does not regret heckling Biden during his speech, saying Biden “got exactly what he deserved.”
