The FBI was searching for documents related to nuclear weapons during their raid of Donald Trump’s home, Mar-a-Lago on Monday, people familiar with the investigation told the Washington Post.
Sources did not provide details on whether the documents concerned nuclear weapons belonging to the US or other nations. It’s also unclear if the documents were recovered in the search.
The report comes after the Justice Department filed a motion on Thursday to request that a Florida court unseal the search warrant executed by the FBI at Mar-a-Lago amid attacks from Trump and his allies in right wing media and Congress.
“The public’s clear and powerful interest in understanding what occurred under these circumstances weighs heavily in favor of unsealing,” Justice Department lawyers wrote in the court filing submitted on Thursday afternoon, according to The Hill.
