Federal prosecutors in New York have charged Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y), CNN reports.
Santos was elected last year and has been under scrutiny ever since after he admitted to lying about his resume while campaigning for office.
Santos has been under investigation by the House Ethics Committee and in multiple jurisdictions amid the fallout from his lies.
The exact nature of the alleged criminal violations is unclear, CNN reported. Santos is expected to appear at federal court in New York’s eastern district on Wednesday, where the charges have been filed under seal.
