One of then-President Donald Trump top Russia adviser, Fiona Hill, was so disturbed by the summit the former president had with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin in 2018 that she considered pulling a fire alarm or faking a medical emergency to end it.
“I just thought, let’s cut this off and try to end it. I couldn’t come up with anything that just wouldn’t add to the terrible spectacle,” Hill told CNN’s Don Lemon. “It was one of those moments where it was mortifying, frankly, and humiliating for the country.”
During a joint press conference, Trump said he didn’t see why Russia would interfere in the 2016 election—siding with Putin over the U.S. intelligence community.
Hill’s comments came on the eve of President Joe Biden’s summit with Putin, which she is helping the president prepare for.
