Press Secretary for First Lady Dr. Jill Biden is calling on Fox News and host Rachel Campos-Duffy to apologize after the host said Dr. Biden “failed the country” by allowing her husband to run for president.
“I’m sorry, as a political spouse, I can’t help but look at Jill Biden,” Campos-Duffy said after calling President Biden “mentally frail.”
“No one knew better his state of mind than Dr. Jill Biden.” Campos-Duffy emphasized on Jill Biden’s distinction as a doctor, making it appear as if she is qualified to assess an individual’s mental state, instead of pointing out that the First Lady earned her doctorate in education. “If you ask me, the most patriotic thing Jill Biden could have done was tell her husband— to love her husband and not let him run in this mental state that he’s in,” Campos-Duffy said. “I think she failed the country as well.”
“This is disgusting,” Michael LaRosa, Jill Biden’s press secretary said. “@RCamposDuffy and @FoxNews know better. They can do better and their viewers deserve better. I hope they’ll apologize to the First Lady and leave this kind of talk in the [trash] where it belongs.”
Republicans have used the chaos surrounding the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan to renew their attacks on President Biden’s mental health. Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fl) went as far to suggest removing him by invoking the 25th Amendment.
Still, this attack on Dr. Biden is odd considering that she is not a member of Biden’s cabinet and has no role in the U.S. exit plan from Afghanistan.
