Alabama corrections officer Vicky White dies from self -inflicted gunshot wound.

Former Alabama corrections officer Vicky White has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after she and escaped inmate Casey White were arrested in Indiana earlier Monday, according to CNN.

White was hospitalized after she was taken into custody following a car chase in Evansville, Indiana.

Indiana’s Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding told reporters at the scene of the arrest that her injuries were “very serious” and described her as being in “pretty serious shape”.

Vanderburgh County Coroner, Steven W Lockyear announced that she died at Evansville Deaconess Midtown Hospital on Monday night.

US Marshal Matt Keely said officers conducting surveillance spotted Vicky White leaving a hotel earlier on Monday wearing a wig. She got into a car with Casey White and left.

A pursuit began and ended when a US Marshals task force member rammed a vehicle into the Cadillac Vicky White was driving causing it to roll over.

“The male and female fled in a vehicle on Highway 41 northbound, went past Highway 57 as you can see they turned here on Birch Park Drive, they came through this grassy area,” Sheriff Wedding said.

“The Marshals task force intercepted them, actually collided with them to try to end the pursuit.”

Officers were able to remove Casey white from the vehicle. Vicky was pinned inside with a gunshot wound to the head. CNN reports.

Casey White reportedly told officers, “Ya’ll help my wife, she shot herself in the head and I didn’t do it,” according to Keely.

Casey White, 38, faces previous murder charges. Vicky White, 56, was first charged with permitting or facilitating escape in the first degree and now also faces forgery and identity theft charges.

“He will be in a cell by himself,” Sheriff Rick Singleton of Lauderdale County, Alabama said of Casey. “He will stay in handcuffs and shackles while he’s in that cell and if he wants to sue me for violating his civil rights, so be it. He’s not getting out of this jail again. I’ll assure you that.”

Vicky White, who was an assistant director of corrections for Lauderdale County, took Casey White from the county jail on April 29, saying she was taking him for a mental health evaluation, which authorities learned later had never been scheduled. She then said she was going to get medical care after dropping the inmate off because she wasn’t feeling well.
