A former staffer for Sen. John Fetterman slammed the Pennsylvania Democrat as a “useful idiot for Republicans” since Donald Trump’s victory in the November election.
“This is a guy who came in talking about being a champion for labor and he’s gone pretty quiet on it,” the anonymous ex-staffer told The Intercerpt. “This is a guy who, since Trump won, is for lack of better word basically a useful idiot for Republicans. He’s supporting stuff and it gives them cover to say, ‘Look it’s bipartisan, we got Fetterman.’”
Since the election, Fetterman has signaled an openness to embracing Trump and his ideas. He even met with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida before he was sworn in.
Fetterman has also angered the liberal base with his staunch support of Israel during the ongoing war with Hamas.
According to the Intercept, staffers are fleeing Fetterman’s office amid the controversies. Since January communications directors Carrie Adams and Charlie Hills along with legislative director Tre Easton have all resigned or is currently on their way out.
Fetterman’s ex-staffer told the outlet that their departures is not a surprise.
“I think the staff is probably frustrated that working in the Fetterman office means you’re just working on Israel all the time,” the staffer said.
