Co-host of The View and Donald Trump’s former White House communications director, Alyssa Farah Griffin said the former president’s interview at the National Association of Black Journalists convention on Wednesday proves that he is diminished mentally.
Trump is facing bipartisan criticism for comments he made at the event, including questioning whether Vice-President Kamala Harris is Black.
“What I was struck by wasn’t just the blatant racism, the lack of understanding of what it means to be biracial — I’ve said this for awhile, he is slowing down,” Griffin said, according to a clip highlighted by Mediaite. He’s never been a super eloquent person [but] he did not seem mentally sharp.”
At the conference Trump said someone should “look into” Harris’ ethnicity wondering out loud about how Harris can both be Black and Indian.
“I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black,” Trump said. “So I don’t know, is she Indian, or is she Black? I respect either one, but she obviously doesn’t, because she was Indian all the way, and then all of a sudden, she made a turn, she went — she became Black. Somebody should look into that.”
On Thursday Griffin said it was as if Trump just walked into the room of Black journalists and “blurted out loud what he says privately with his advisors.”
“He didn’t even try to hide or mask the racism and that to me is a sign of decline,” Griffin continued. “He was asked should he take a mental acuity test. I think he should. He does not seem right.”
