Three of the major cable news networks either cut off Former President Donald Trump’s 2024 announcement speech or chose not to bring it live.
CNN reportedly cut off Trump’s speech midway for a political panel to offer analysis and fact checks. MSNBC did not carry Trump’s speech live, opting for a panel to discuss the announcement instead. This left Fox News as the only major outlet carrying the speech before they also broke away for analysis from pro-Trump contributors.
Fox News later rejoined Trump’s speech as he was wrapping up.
Fox News cutting away from Trump’s 2024 announcement speech is significant given that several Murdoch owned conservative media outlets have started to distance themselves from the former president after Republicans disappointing midterms, which they blamed on Trump.
Earlier Tuesday, Trump’s spokesperson Liz Harrington falsely claim that the networks would be violating the First Amendment if they didn’t bring Trump’s speech live.
“They don’t want the American people to hear directly from the biggest leader of the greatest political movement in our history,” Harrington said on Steve Bannon’s show. “So, I do suspect they’ll try to censor and cut away. However, the people are anxious to hear from him. So, they will go right around the major networks in they do indeed cut away.”
