A Fox News contributor declared that Donald Trump has won over Black voters with the launch of his $400 pair of sneakers.
Raymond Arroyo made the comment this week during Fox News Channel’s The Big Weekend Show, according to Mediaite. He argued that Trump is connecting with Black voters with the sneakers based on the reactions he saw on social media.
“I was on social media last night. Very interesting as you see Black support eroding from Joe Biden,” Arroyo said. “This is connecting with Black America because they love sneakers! They’re into sneakers! They love the you know, this is a big deal, certainly in the inner city.”
“So when you have Trump roll out his sneaker line, they’re like, “wait a minute, this is cool!” he continued. “He’s reaching them on a level that defies and is above politics. The culture always trumps politics, and Trump understands culture like no politician I’ve ever seen.”
Trump launched the shiny gold colored $399 shoes with an American flag and a ‘T’ badge at Sneaker Con last week in Philadelphia.
“Anybody willing to put 400 bucks down for a pair of sneakers? Yeah, I think that’s commitment and love. It’s something,” Arroyo said. “It’s something it’s affection on some level…he’s connecting on a different level.”
Conservative commentator, Tomi Lahren pushed back, noting that anybody willing to spend $400 on Trump sneakers were going to vote for him anyway.
“I have a feeling the people that are going to go buy the $400 sneakers were probably going to vote for Trump anyway,” Lahren said. “So that’s my concern. How does he get new voters into the fold? That’s my concern.”
