Evangelical leader Franklin Graham slammed the group ‘Evangelicals For Harris’ for using a video of his late father in a campaign ad for the Democratic presidential ticket.
“The liberals are using anything and everything they can to promote candidate Harris. They even developed a political ad trying to use my father [Billy Graham] image,” Graham wrote in a post on X. “They are trying to mislead people. Maybe they don’t know that my father appreciated the conservative values and policies of President [Donald Trump] in 2016 and if he were alive today, my father’s views and opinions would not have changed.”
Evangelicals for Harris is aimed at targeting a key Trump voting bloc in the 2024 election.
On Wednesday, the group dropped their first ad this cycle which begins with the late Rev. Billy Graham saying, “Have you been to the cross and said, ‘Lord, I have sinned. I’m sorry for my sin. I’m willing to change my way of life.’”
The video then cuts to comments Trump made at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa, in July, 2015 while speaking to Republican pollster Frank Luntz.
“Have you ever asked God for forgiveness?” Luntz asked Trump.
“That’s a tough question. I’m not sure I have. I just I don’t bring God into that picture. I don’t,” Trump responded.
The ad ends by displaying a text that reads: “Is there any greater denial of Christ… than to say ‘I don’t need his forgiveness.'”
David Brody, a Christian Broadcasting Network anchor who broke the news about the ad, noted that while Harris will not win a majority of the White Born Again Evangelical Vote, she just needs to peel off around 20 percent.
“If Kamala Harris gets 20% or more of the White Born Again Evangelical Vote (not out of the question), Trump will probably lose,” he said.
“In 2008, Barack Obama received 26% of the White Born Again Evangelical Vote and WON,” Brody added. “In 2016, Hillary Clinton received 16% of the White Born Again Evangelical Vote and LOST. In 2020, Joe Biden received 24% of the White Born Again Evangelical Vote and WON.”
