On Thursday, Florida Democratic State Rep. Anna Eskamani posted a thread to Twitter, detailing a creepy voicemail left for her by Congressman Matt Gaetz and his associate, former Seminole County Tax Collector Joel Greenberg, two Florida Republicans currently under investigation for alleged sex trafficking, Orlando Weekly reports.
Rep. Eskamani said the men called her on July 4th 2019, she never pick up so they left a message.
Here’s a transcript of the call:
Greenberg: “My dear Anna, this is your favorite tax collector. I’m up in the Panhandle with your favorite U.S. congressman Mr. Gaetz.
Gaetz: “Hi Anna.”
Greenberg: “And uh, we were just chatting about you and your lovely qualities, and your…”
Gaetz: “… We think you’re the future of the Democratic Party in Florida!”
Greenberg: “See, I know you’re the future of it, there’s no thinking involved. Anyway, uh, if you get this and you feel like chatting, give me a shout back. Hope you’re well. Hope you had a nice Fourth, later.”
Listen to the voicemail.
“I shared the voicemail with a few different people because again, it was SO WEIRD and I didn’t realize they were friends,” Rep. Eskamani wrote.
She also says the voicemail followed another uncomfortable situation, where Greenberg asked her to lunch and was presumably “high the entire time.”
“It was the weirdest meeting I’ve ever had,” said Eskamani.
“I haven’t shared any of this publicly because for so many women, feeling forced to have lunch with someone you don’t want to have lunch with or getting unsolicited gifts and phone calls is the norm. You internalize it and just try to avoid that person. I’m not doing that anymore,” Eskamani wrote in another tweet.
This new development comes as Business Insider reported that Gaetz took part in a competition among men in the Florida state legislature during his time there from 2010—2016, in which they ranked and scored their sexual encounters.
Sleeping in a sorority house and bedding married legislators were vaunted achievements in the games. Sleeping with one unnamed woman was the grand prize. Whoever slept with this woman “won the whole game regardless of points,” a GOP operative who worked with Gaetz told Business Insider. The unnamed woman was nicknamed “the snitch” in reference to the Harry Potter game of Quidditch.
