George Santos 'not welcome' at Republican Jewish Coalition events after lying about his Jewish heritage

Republican Congressman-elect George Santos (NY) is no longer allowed to attend events hosted by the Republican Jewish Coalition after he admitted to lying about his Jewish heritage.

“We are very disappointed in Congressman-elect Santos. He deceived us and misrepresented his heritage. In public comments and to us personally he previously claimed to be Jewish,” the group’s CEO Matt Brooks said in a statement. “He has begun his tenure in Congress on a very wrong note. He will not be welcome at any future RJC event.”

Rep-elect Santos has faced scrutiny over discrepancies in his biography that simply does not add up. Among other things, he claims to be Jewish and that his maternal grandparents escaped the Holocaust during World War II.

CNN’s KFile found that Santos was referring to himself as a proud Jew as recently as late November 2022. Santos even referred to himself as “a proud American Jew” in a paper he had written during his campaign.

However, Santos told the New York Post on Monday that he “never claimed to be Jewish. I am Catholic. Because I learned my maternal family had a Jewish background I said I was ‘Jew-ish.’”
