Georgia Secretary of State office is opening an inquiry into Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the election in the state.
“The Secretary of State’s office investigates complaints it receives. The investigations are fact-finding and administrative in nature,” a spokesperson for the office said. “Any further legal efforts will be left to the Attorney General.”
President Biden won Georgia by more than 11,000 votes. A lead that has survived numerous recounts and legal challenges. But, Trump still falsely claim that he won the state.
The inquiry will likely focus on the Jan. 2 phone call between Trump and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in which Trump asked the SoS to find 11,980 necessary to overturn the results of the election in the state.
Trump also pressured the state’s governor Brian Kemp to reconvene a special legislative session to select Trump-friendly electors instead of the electors chosen based on the popular vote winner.
Kemp refused and Trump has made it his mission to ensure that he does it win re-election.
