Other than former President Bill Clinton, President-elect Joe Biden is the only other presidential candidate to lose both Iowa and New Hampshire then went on to win the presidency, since the states rose to national prominence in 1972 as the first contests in the presidential nomination process.
Joe Biden could not have achieved this without black women in South Carolina and Rep. Jim Clyburn. If Biden owes anybody anything it is the good church ladies of South Carolina and Congressman Clyburn.
Why did those black women in South Carolina vote for Joe Biden? Why did Rep. Jim Clyburn put his reputation on the line to endorse a man whose candidacy everyone including the political pundits declared dead?.
Those women did not vote for Joe Biden because they support ‘Medicare for all’. Jim Clyburn did not decide to endorse Biden because he believes police departments should be defunded. They voted for Biden because they know that after four years of Donald Trump this country would need healing and Biden was the best candidate– in that large and very diverse democratic field– suited to do it.
These are the people who Biden owes. These are the people the media should spend time interviewing instead of releasing a new interview with AOC or with some other member of the left every other day telling Biden what he can and cannot do because he owes them, despite their premature grave dancing in the primaries and on election night during the red mirage.
Don’t get me wrong, everyone deserves a seat at the table. The left deserves a seat at the table. But, they should avoid over playing their hand believing that Joe Biden owes his presidency to them and as such they deserve the right to tell him how to govern.
Donald Trump is already trying to handicap and delegitimize Biden’s presidency–before he sets foot in the Oval Office.
Give President-elect Biden a chance to govern. A chance to try and heal the country after the last four years–what the people who actually believe in him, voted for him to do in the first place–before others start talking about what he owes them. Because if Biden owes anybody anything its the people of South Carolina and Rep. Jim Clyburn.
