GOP congressman says Republicans should cancel SOTU address to pressure Biden to act on the border.

Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) is calling on House Republicans to cancel President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address to pressure the president to support border legislation weeks after congressional Republicans killed a bipartisan immigration bill.

“We need every point of leverage, every single point, including spending, certainly including an address to the people from Congress,” Perry said during an interview on Fox Business Monday.

“He comes at the invitation of Congress,” Perry continued. “The Republicans are in charge of the House, there is no reason that we need to invite him to get more propaganda, to actually blame the American people for the crisis he caused. We can spend time reminding America that on day one he countervailed the last administration policies securing our border. That is what possibly the time would be better served using.”

Congressional Republicans, at the behest of Donald Trump, killed a bipartisan immigration bill earlier month because they want to run on the issue in November.
