Rep. Cory Mills, R-Fla. is being investigated over an alleged assault at an apartment building in DC this week.
The Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement that officers “were called to the 1300 block of Maryland Avenue, Southwest around 1:15 p.m. Wednesday for the report of an assault.”
NBC Washington reported that the victim, co-founder of Iranians for Trump, Sarah Raviani, told police that her “significant other for over a year” allegedly “grabbed her, shoved her, and pushed her out of the door” resulting in bruises on her arm.
Raviani also reportedly allowed officers to listen to a recorded phone call where Mills allegedly told her to lie about how she got the bruises.
MPD spokesperson Tom Lynch confirmed to CNN that Mills is the subject being investigated for alleged assault.”
However, in a statement Raviani said there was no violence.
“Wednesday, I reached out to law enforcement to address a personal matter. Several factors influenced my decision to involve the authorities,” Raviani said. “While the personal matter in question was emotionally charged, there was no physical altercation.”
Raviani said she was “severely jet-lagged and sleep-deprived” after returning from a 14-hour flight and had been drinking.
“Upon their arrival, they noticed some bruising and marks on my arms, which I explained were the result of medical conditions like eczema and activities from my recent trip to Dubai,” she continued. “While the personal matter in question was emotionally charged, there was no physical altercation.”
Raviani added that the situation had been “misrepresented” and “being unfairly exploited for political purposes or other motives.”
Mills, who is married, denied any wrongdoing in a statement issued by his office Friday.
“This week, law enforcement was asked to resolve a private matter at Congressman Mills’ residence,” the statement read. “Congressman Mills vehemently denies any wrongdoing whatsoever, and is confident any investigation will clear this matter quickly.”
