GOP lawmaker brags about securing funding for children's hospital, despite voting against it.

Rep. Maria Salazar (R-Fla.) is once again taking credit for legislation she voted against in Congress.

Earlier this month, Salazar celebrated delivering $1.4 million to the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in her district and said she is “proud to support the work” of the hospital’s staff in Congress.

“I am thrilled to have secured over $1.4 million to provide cutting-edge medicine to children and help the hospital confront our nation’s growing mental health crisis,” she said in a statement.

Salazar also posed for a photo-op handing over the check to the hospital’s staff and posted the images to social media.

“I was thrilled to celebrate the $1.45 million my office secured for @Nicklaus4Kids with the wonderful leadership and staff,” she wrote. “Nicklaus Children’s leads the nation in pediatric care, and I am proud to deliver funding for projects that will significantly improve patient outcomes.”

But, the money was from the Fiscal Year 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act which Salazar voted against.

Salazar’s spokesperson told Huffpost she “secured this funding by working directly with Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and working to get this included in federal funding legislation.”

“Unfortunately, the final bill also included wasteful measures and was far too large at $1.7 trillion,” Salazar’s spokesperson added.

It is not the first time the Florida congresswoman is taking credit for legislation she opposed.

Last year she bragged about bringing federal funding to her district with the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, despite voting against the legislations.

When confronted by a CBS News Miami reporter last month, Salazar said she “cannot really remember right now” how she voted on the bills.
