GOP lawmaker says Republicans are fleeing Congress because it is ‘humiliating’ to be a ‘rubber stamp’ for Trump.

Republican Congressman Thomas Massie suggested on Friday that Republicans are fleeing Congress because it is ‘humiliating’ to be a “rubber stamp’ for Donald Trump’s unpopular agenda.

“You have a lot of intelligent, hard-working people who gave up a lot of things to be here in Congress, only to find out that all they get to do is come here and rubber-stamp whatever Donald Trump wants, and that’s kind of humiliating,” Massie told CNN’s Manu Raju. “That’s why you have so many people running for statewide office and retirements being announced, because nobody wants to be a rubber stamp. You could get a monkey to do this job.”

A significant number of lawmakers are quitting Congress, with Republican resignations outpacing Democrats by a 2-1 margin.
Nearly a dozen House Republicans are leaving Congress to run for statewide offices, including former House Republican Conference chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY), and several others are retiring from public service.
