GOP lawmaker tells Trump why making Canada a state would be bad for Republicans.

Donald Trump’s idea of making Canada a state is a step too far even for his most loyal sycophants in the House of Representatives.

According to Politico, Trump’s suggestion of making Canada the 51st state “got a chilly reception” at a dinner at Mar-a-Lago on Friday with members of the House Freedom Caucus, because it could backfire on Republicans.

“I said, ‘Mr. President, the Canadians, they are going to elect two Democrat senators; we don’t want that,” Rep. Byron Donalds in an interview after the dinner. “Territory status isn’t too bad.”

Since the election Trump has been saying that Canada should become the 51st state and has said he is open to using “economic force” to take the country. He even went as far as to refer to outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as governor.

Trudeau responded in a statement saying, “There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States. Workers and communities in both our countries benefit from being each other’s biggest trading and security partner.”
