GOP lawmaker warns that if Trump continues mass deportations it’s “gonna crash the economy.”

Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-IN) warned on Wednesday that the economy will crash if Donald Trump deports every undocumented migrant.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Stutzman said farmers in his district have reached out to him expressing concerns about Trump’s mass deportation policy.

“I have people they call me. They’re like, ‘I’m not sure if my crew is going to show up for work Monday morning, because if there’s a raid, or something like that, right?” he said. “If you try to deport all of them, you’re gonna crash the economy.”

Trump ran on deporting violent criminals, but since he returned to office in January, the president has executed a mass deportation policy targeting work sites. The raids at worksite locations have scooped up thousands of migrants, some without a criminal record, to meet the administration’s arrest quotas of 3,000 per day.

Following criticism, Trump claimed ICE would limit immigration raids conducted in the agriculture, hospitality and food service industries. But, a guidance issued by ICE to stop targeting such sites was reversed.

According to The Wall Street Journal, some House Republicans are pushing for changes in immigration law to allow for undocumented migrants to get temporary legal status to remain on the job.

“The excuse that we’ve had from not taking steps to pass measures ensuring certainty and availability of workforce has been that the border hasn’t been under control. That excuse is gone,” chair of the House Agriculture Committee Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-PA.) said.
