A top Republican donor said he will not be supporting former president and de-facto leader of the Republican Party, Donald Trump if he decides to run for president in 2024, Bloomberg reports.
Hedge fund manager Ken Griffin believes it is time for the country to move on from the “pointlessly divisive” Donald Trump
“I think it’s time for America to move on,” he said in a discussion with Bloomberg TV’s Erik Schatzker at the Economic Club of Chicago.
Griffin was the fourth-biggest individual GOP donor in the last election cycle giving $46 million to Republicans, excluding Donald Trump.
Griffin said Trump’s one term in office was not constructive for the country, except for his economic policies, which Griffin described as “pretty damn good.”
Donald Trump remains popular among the Republican base and is the overwhelming favorite to win the party nomination for president if he decides to run in three years. However, he continues to be a liability to some Republicans due to his style of politics.
The Washington Post reports that he was advised against announcing his run for president in 2024 during the Afghanistan withdrawal because his advisors believe he would be blamed if Republicans under perform in the 2022 midterm elections.
