The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC)— “the only national organization solely devoted to taking back the Republican Senate Majority,” presented Donald Trump with their “inaugural Champion of Freedom Award” on the same weekend he called the top Republican in the Senate Mitch McConnell a “dumb son of a bitch.”
The group said the award “is presented to conservative leaders who have worked tirelessly to create good jobs that, protect the values that make our country great and stop the Democrats’ socialist agenda.”
The award was presented to Trump by NRSC chairman and Florida Sen. Rick Scott on the same weekend that he attacked Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell at a GOP donor retreat deriding him as a “dumb son of a bitch,” for not doing enough to defend him during the second impeachment trial and overturning the election.
Social media was not impressed and accused the Republicans of inventing the award to stage a photo-op between Trump and Scott who is a possible candidate for the party’s nomination for president in 2024.
