Senate Republicans are not on board with Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s decision to launch an impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden. One GOP senator called the move a “waste of time.”
“It’s a waste of time. It’s a fool’s errand,” the senator who wished to remain anonymous told The Hill. “Fortunately, it’ll be dispensed with fairly quickly if they ever send articles of impeachment over to us.”
“We know how this is going to end. It just creates tumult within the conference. I can see it already how people are going to react when they send a message over if they go that far,” the senator added.
McCarthy announced Tuesday that he is directing the chairmen of House Oversight, Judiciary and Ways and Means committees to formally launch an impeachment inquiry into Biden even though all three committees have been investigating the president for months and is yet to produce any evidence of wrongdoing.
Several GOP senators are already on record saying House Republicans do not have the evidence to merit an impeachment.
