GOP senator slams Trump after he calls border deal a 'betrayal': "Don't be ignorant"

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) lashed out at Donald Trump after the former president called the bipartisan senate border deal a “betrayal” despite not know what is in the bill.

“As the leader of our party, there is zero chance I will support this horrible open borders betrayal of America,” Trump said Saturday. “I’ll fight it all the way. A lot of the senators are trying to say, respectfully, they’re blaming it on me. I say, that’s okay. Please blame it on me. Please.”

Asked if Trump has access to the bill’s text, Cassidy told CNN’s Manu Raju, “it doesn’t seem that way.”

“It hasn’t been released. How does he know it’s a betrayal if he hasn’t read it? I mean, don’t be ignorant. Read the bill,” Cassidy added.

After spending months demanding that Biden’s national security funding package for Ukraine be tied to policy changes to address the southern border, Republicans, at the behest of Trump, are planning to sink the legislation because the issue at the border could be beneficial to them in the November election.
