Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said she is “proud” to vote for Donald Trump’s massive budget bill on Wednesday hours after she criticized the legislation and vowed to oppose it if senators do not make certain changes.
“The bill actually destroys what you guys voted for for the past four years. And I’m proud to have voted for that bill to fund border security to deport all these illegals you guys let in the country,” Greene told Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia (Calif.) when pressed about the bill during a House DOGE Subcommittee meeting.
Greene’s remarks were a complete 180 from Tuesday when she admitted to not reading a provision in the bill and implied that she regrets voting for the legislation in it’s current form that narrowly passed in the House last month.
“Full transparency, I did not know about this section on pages 278-279 of the [One Big Beautiful Bill] that strips states of the right to make laws or regulate AI for 10 years,” Greene wrote. “I am adamantly OPPOSED to this and it is a violation of state rights, and I would have voted NO if I had known this was in there.”
“We have no idea what AI will be capable of in the next 10 years and giving it free rein and tying states hands is potentially dangerous,” she continued. “This needs to be stripped out in the Senate. When the [One Big Beautiful Bill] comes back to the House for approval after Senate changes, I will not vote for it with this in it.”
