Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) was re-elected as Democratic House leader on Tuesday.
Jeffries was re-elected unanimously during an internal party vote of the House Democrats.
As Democratic leader, Jeffries will remain House minority leader since Democrats failed to flip enough seats to retake control of the House from Republicans in the November elections.
The speaker’s gavel is expected to go to Republican Mike Johnson (R-La.).
Jeffries along with soon-to-be Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) will lead the resistance in Congress amid Republicans’ unilateral control of Washington DC.
Democrats are making few changes to their leadership ranks, despite falling short of winning a House majority in the election.
