The head of a major Russian shipyard that supplies the country’s navy with submarines and warships, is the latest top Russian official to die under mysterious circumstances in recent months.
Alexander Buzakov, 66, the Director General of Admiralty Shipyards for the United Shipbuilding Company, died on Saturday, the company said in a statement according to Reuters.
“The United Shipbuilding Corporation, the Admiralty Shipyards, and the entire national shipbuilding industry have suffered an irreparable loss, as Alexander Sergeevich Buzakov, Director General of the Admiralty Shipyards, passed away at the age of 66. He shouldered responsibility for the most complex orders and dealt well with each of them with dignity, thus earning a great reputation both in the industry and with the county’s leadership,” United Shipbuilding wrote in a statement.
No cause of death was given. However, the Russian state-owned TASS news agency called Buzakov’s death “untimely” and tragic.
Buzakov became the head of Admiralty Shipyard in 2012. The company specializes in building non-nuclear submarines and is responsible for the diesel-powered submarines capable of launching kalibr cruise missiles which the country is using in their war with Ukraine, Reuters reports.
Since President Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, several Russian oligarchs and top businessmen have died under mysterious circumstances which Russian officials claim were either accidents or suicides.
