Georgia Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker announced on Monday that he plans to sue the Daily Beast for defamation over a report that he paid an ex-girlfriend to get an abortion.
“This is a flat-out lie – and I deny this in the strongest possible terms,” Walker said in a tweet. “I’m not taking this anymore. I (sic) planning to sue the Daily Beast for this defamatory lie. It will be filed tomorrow morning,” he added.
On Monday the Daily Beast’s Roger Sollenberger reported that a woman, who asked not to be identified, told the outlet that Walker urged her to get an abortion when she got pregnant with his child in 2009 while they were dating.
The woman provided the outlet with a $575 receipt from an abortion clinic as well as a “get well card” from Walker and an image of a $700 check signed by him. The Daily Beast reported that it independently corroborated details of the woman’s story with a close friend she told at the time who also took care of her after the procedure.
Walker is a staunch abortion opponent who believes there should be no exceptions in cases of rape, incest, or even to save the life of the mother.
Walker faces incumbent Democrat Sen.Raphael Warnock in November.
