Herschel Walker says the existence of apes proves that evolution is not real

Trump-backed candidate for Senate in Georgia Herschel Walker believes evolution is not real because apes and humans coexist.

“At one time, science said man came from apes, did it not? If that is true, why are there still apes? Think about it,” Walker said during an appearance at the Sugar Hill Church in Georgia on Sunday, according to Huffpost.

Though this does not disprove the theory of evolution, it landed well with the congregation. “Now you’re getting too smart for us, Herschel,” lead pastor Chuck Allen responded.

Evolution does not say humans evolve from modern-day apes. Both humans and apes evolve from a common ancestor that existed millions of years ago and is now extinct.

Walker also argued that science alone cannot be responsible for the creation of a baby, “there has to be a God,” he said.

Walker, a former NFL player, is the GOP frontrunner to challenge Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) in November.
