A California hotel has canceled a July 17 American First rally after they found out that Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fl) and Marjorie Taylor-Greene (R-Ga.) were the headliners.
Javad Mirtavoosi, general manager of Pacific Hills Banquet & Event Center in Laguna Hills, California told the Orange County Register that they were just expecting a small gathering when the organizers of the event booked their venue. He said as soon as they found out who would be at the event they canceled.
“We just want to stay clear of that,” Mirtavoosi said. “As soon as we found out who the speakers were we immediately canceled it,” he added.
Mirtavoosi would not say whether he or the center had political differences with the speakers, just that they “thought it would be best for our facility to cancel.”
Gaetz and Greene have been traveling the country since May co-hosting America First rallies and spreading the big lie that the election was stolen from Trump.
The pair also has some problems of their own. Gaetz is under federal investigation for alleged sex trafficking of a minor and prostitution and Greene lost her House committee assignments after past comments resurfaced of her encouraging political violence against top Democratic officials.
They are still selling tickets to the event as they scramble to find a new venue in Orange County that can host the rally on the same day.
“We’re very close to securing a location that will proudly host our America First Rally with Congresswoman Greene and Congressman Gaetz,” Nick Dyer, spokesman for Greene’s campaign told OCR on Friday.
