The official Twitter account of the House GOP conference posted an attack on former Trump White House deputy press secretary Sarah Matthews while she was testifying before the Jan. 6 committee on Thursday night, then deleted it.
“Just another liar and pawn in Pelosi’s witch-hunt,” the account posted while quote tweeting a Jan. 20, 2021 tweet from Matthews thanking Trump and former Vice President Mike Pence for their service and saying that it was an honor to serve in their administration.
Matthews is currently a GOP staffer serving as the communications director on the House Climate Crisis Committee.
The account later deleted the tweet attacking Matthews as well as another tweet calling the testimony hearsay. The account is run by staff from Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y) office.
“The tweet was sent out at the staff level and was not authorized or the position of the conference and therefore was deleted,” a House GOP spokesperson said.
