ICE agents mistakenly detain US Marshal.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Arizona accidentally detained a Deputy US Marshal.

“A Deputy US Marshal who fit the general description of a subject being sought by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) was briefly detained at a federal building in Tucson after entering the lobby of the building,” U.S. Marshals Service spokesperson Colleen Grayman said in a statement.

“The Deputy US Marshal’s identity was quickly confirmed by other law enforcement officers, and he exited the building without incident,” Grayman added.

The Deputy US Marshal was likely at the federal building fulfilling his duties which involve protecting the federal judiciary and apprehending federal fugitives.

The accidental arrest comes as the Trump administration targets migrants outside courthouses to increase arrest numbers.

This comes after Trump rescinded a long-held guidance that had limited immigration enforcement at or near courthouses or other ‘sensitive locations.’

“The ability of law enforcement to make arrests of criminal illegal aliens in courthouses is common sense,” Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said.
