Incumbent GOP governor casts his vote for Joe Biden.

Incumbent GOP governor cast his vote for Joe Biden.

Vermont’s Republican Gov. Phil Scott told reporters on Tuesday that he voted for the Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

In August, Gov. Scott was not sure if he would be voting for Biden, after he made it clear that he would not be supporting Donald Trump. He said at the time that voting for Biden was “something I would consider.”

On Tuesday, he “put country over party” and cast his vote for Biden.

“It was a bit of a struggle for me, but I ended up voting for Joe Biden,” said Gov. Scott who had never supported a Democrat for president before today.

Other prominent incumbent Republicans like Sen. Mitt Romney, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker all announced they weren’t supporting Trump’s reelection, but they stopped short of going all in for Biden. Gov. Scott’s decision makes him the first incumbent Republican governor to publicly announce he voted for Joe Biden.

Gov. Scott is also up for reelection tonight against a progressive Democrat.
