Democratic strategist James Carville blamed “stupid wokeness” for Democratic party losses in Virginia and poor performances in New Jersey on Tuesday night after President Biden carried both states by double digits one year earlier.
“What went wrong is just stupid wokeness. Don’t just look at Virginia and New Jersey. Look at Long Island, look at Buffalo, look at Minneapolis, even look at Seattle, Wash. I mean, this ‘defund the police’ lunacy, this take Abraham Lincoln’s name off of schools. I mean that — people see that,” Carville told “PBS NewsHour” host Judy Woodruff on Wednesday.
Republican Glenn Youngkin defeated former democratic governor Terry McAuliffe in Virginia and Gov. Phil Murphy (D) was re-elected in New Jersey, though it was not as easy as Democrats thought it would be.
“Suburbanites in northern Virginia, suburbanites in northern New Jersey pulled away a little bit. Youngkin never ran any ads against Biden. And I think what he did is just let the Democrats pull the pin and watch the grenade go off on them,” Carville said.
“We got to change this and not be about changing dictionaries and change laws,” Carville added. “These faculty lounge people that sit around mulling about I don’t know what. … They’re not working.”
