GOP Reps. Jim Jordan (Ohio) and Rodney Davis (Ill.) are asking Capitol Police for more information after a production crew for Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” was arrested last Thursday night at the US Capitol while filming a comedy segment.
“These individuals were arrested and charged with unlawful entry after causing ‘disturbances at the offices of several Republican members, including ‘banging’ on their office doors,” the lawmakers wrote in a letter to Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger, according to The Hill.
“The individuals were originally in the Capitol Complex in connection with the activities of the January 6th Select Committee, but it is unclear whether the Select Committee had any involvement in or awareness of these individuals’ planned harassment of Republican offices.”
The lawmakers asked Manger to provide a report on the incident, witness statements and other material related to the crew’s arrest “as soon as possible” or “certify to us that you have taken all necessary steps to preserve responsive material in the United States Capitol Police’s custody or control.”
According to CBS, the production crew’s interviews at the Capitol “were authorized and pre-arranged through Congressional aides of the members interviewed.”
They were detained by Capitol Police while filming stand-ups and other final comedy elements in the halls of the Capitol. The crew was charged with unlawful entry.
House Republicans, including Jordan, have downplayed the Jan. 6 Capitol riot that resulted in the death of at least seven people. Jordan and the rest of Congress were forced to hide from the pro-Trump in an undisclosed location in the Capitol.
No one was hurt during the filming of the comedy segment at the Capitol last week neither were lawmakers forced to go into hiding.
