The Chairman of the House rules committee Jim McGovern tried unsuccessfully to get Jim Jordan to admit that Joe Biden won the election fair and square during a contentious hearing on Tuesday to debate two resolutions to remove Donald Trump from office.
Jordan used his allotted time to call for unity. He argued that “we should use this time to bring the nation together,” instead of trying to remove Trump from office for a second time with just days left in his presidency.

“This isn’t a both sides issue. Our Capitol was attacked. Five people are dead. Countless people are wounded. We had a group of domestic terrorists, homegrown fascists, who came to the Capitol building to desecrate this symbol of democracy and freedom, and to do harm to people,” McGovern responded. “I’m glad that all it took for you to call for unity and healing was for our freedom and democracy to be attacked. For the last several months the gentleman from Ohio and others have given oxygen to the president’s conspiracy theories.”
But, since the Republicans are all about unity now that the Capitol has been attacked and Trump is facing a historic second impeachment for inciting insurrection, McGovern wanted Jordan– one of Donald Trump’s staunchest allies in Congress and one of the main proponents of conspiracy theories about the election— to admit once and for all that the election was fair.

But, Jordan refused to answer when asked outright to tell the American people the truth about the election and to admit that Biden won “fair and square” to help the country heal.
“If we want to talk about healing we have to talk about truth. If we want to talk about healing we have to deal with the issue of accountability. What this president incited last Wednesday was unforgivable and unconscionable,” McGovern said.
