Joe Manchin considering reregistering as a Democrat to challenge Harris for the party’s presidential nomination.

Retiring Sen. Joe Manchin (I-W. Va.) is reportedly considering mounting a challenge to Vice-President Kamala Harris for the Democratic party nomination for president.

Manchin, who left the Democratic party earlier this year to become an Independent, is considering re-registering as a Democrat to seek the party’s presidential nomination, Jonathan Kott, a longtime adviser to Manchin told the Associated Press.

President Biden announced Sunday he was stepping down from the top of the Democratic presidential ticket after weeks of pressure from within the Democratic party following a subpar debate performance last month.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden said in a statement.

Biden also endorsed Harris to be the Democratic Party nominee for president and several potential challengers to Harris for the Democratic bid also followed suit.
